bietet eine breitere, dezentrierte Lesart des Begriffs „Phonographie“. Die Künstler*innen und Vortragenden erforschen die Phonographie als eine umfassende und kollektive sozio-materielle Praxis, die Aktivitäten des Aufnehmens, Sammelns, Verbreitens und Zuhörens umfasst. Die Beiträge vermitteln jene Materialien, Maschinen, Imaginationen und Orte, die die frühe Geschichte der Tonaufzeichnung vom späten 19. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert geprägt haben. Diese multidisziplinäre Veranstaltung eröffnet durch Vorträge, Gesprächsrunden und Konzerte einen Dialog zwischen Industrie, Wissenschaft, Kunst, Musik und Populärkultur. Sie beschwört dabei neue Räume herauf, um über vergangene phonografische Praktiken in Bezug zu den Heutigen und ihren Gewohnheiten nachzudenken.
Die Veranstaltung findet im Deutschen Phonomuseum in Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald (Deutschland), einem Schlüsselstandort für die frühe Phonoindustrie in Deutschland und Wiege der Marke DUAL, sowie im PHONO Museum in Paris statt.

TRANSNATIONAL PHONOGRAPHY...

offers a wider, decentred reading of the term ‘phonography’ beyond the notion of sonic inscription. The participants – academics and artists – explore phonography as a vast and collective socio-material practice – encompassing activities of recording, collecting, disseminating and listening. They recover and celebrate the many intermediaries, materials, machines, imaginaries and places which fashioned the early history of sound recording from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. This multidisciplinary, travelling event opens up a conversation between industry, science, art, music and popular culture through talks, roundtables and concerts. It also conjures up new spaces to think of past phonographic practices in relation to today’s cultural practices and habits.
The event will take place at the Deutschen Phonomuseum in Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald (Germany, Black Forest), a key location for the early sound-recording industry in Germany as well as the cradle of the DUAL brand, and at the PHONO Museum in Paris (10tharr.), retracing over 160 years of recorded sound.

propose une lecture élargie et (décentrée) du terme ‘phonographie’ au-delà de la notion d’inscription sonore. Les intervenants – conférenciers et artistes – interrogent la phonographie comme une vaste pratique socio-matérielle, collective et vibrante, qui englobe activités d’enregistrement, de collection, de diffusion et d’écoute. Ils rendent hommage aux nombreux intermédiaires, matériaux, machines, imaginaires et lieux qui ont jalonné les débuts de l’industrie du disque de la fin du dix-neuvième au début du vingtième siècle. Cet événement multidisciplinaire et itinérant ouvre un dialogue entre l’industrie, la science, l’art, la musique et la culture populaire à travers des conférences, des discussions et des concerts. Il imagine aussi de nouveaux espaces où penser les cultures phonographiques d’hier en lien avec les pratiques et habitudes culturelles d’aujourd’hui.
L’événement aura lieu au Deutschen Phonomuseum de Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald (Allemagne, Forêt Noire), lieu clé de l’industrie phonographique allemande et berceau de la marque DUAL, et au PHONO Museum de Paris (Xe), qui retrace plus de 160 ans d'histoire du son enregistré.
