Der KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST vergibt zwei projektbezogene Künstler*innenresidenzen, die als Arbeitsstipendien auf zwei bis drei Monate angelegt sind und nach Absprache im Zeitraum zwischen dem 1. Februar und 3. Mai 2024 stattfinden. Die Ergebnisse der Residenzen werden im Rahmen des alljährlichen VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMPS am 4. und 5. Mai 2024 öffentlich präsentiert.
Das VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP ist eine lokal und eigenständig organisierte Veranstaltung, die mit einem globalen Netzwerk unterschiedlicher Akteure vernetzt ist. Sie verfolgt das Ziel, das Verhalten und den Lebensraum unserer gefiederten Freunde künstlerisch zu erkunden und zu vermitteln. Seine ursprüngliche Inspiration erhielt das VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP von dem Wildtierexperten und Rundfunksprecher Chris Baines, und seinem bereits in den 1980ern ins Leben gerufenen International Dawn Chorus Day. Hierbei verbinden sich am jeweils ersten Sonntagmorgen im Monat Mai verschiedene temporär eingerichtete Soundcamps auf der ganzen Welt zu einer globalen vogelphonen Symphonie. Durch die Kooperation aller Soundcamps entsteht ein 24-stündiger Livestream aus fortwährendem Morgengezwitscher, an dem auch das VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP im Schwarzwald teilnimmt. Es wird so entlang des Sonnenaufgangs ein weltumspannendes Phänomen erlebbar gemacht: der Morgengesang der Vögel. Im Jahr 2024 ist dies der 5. Mai.
Ergänzend zu dem von den Soundcamps kollektiv erzeugten, 24-stündigen Vogelkonzert, spannt sich beim VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP im Schwarzwald auch vor Ort ein medienübergreifendes Festivalprogramm auf. Darunter sind Workshops, Vorträge, Installationen, Performances, etc. – vieles davon interaktiv ausgerichtet, zum Mitmachen.
Die beiden ausgeschriebenen Residenzen sollen es Künstler*innen ermöglichen, eine projekt- und themenbezogene Arbeit zu entwickeln und diese im Rahmen des VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMPS zu präsentieren. Im Produktionsprozess werden die Künstler*innen vom GLOBAL FOREST-Team unterstützt. Grundsätzlich sind alle künstlerischen Medien willkommen, die im Rahmen des Festivals umsetzbar sind. Inhaltlich sollte der Fokus auf einer (un)mittelbaren Auseinandersetzung mit der Natur – insbesondere mit der Vogelwelt – erkennbar sein. Dabei können gerne auch gesellschaftspolitische Themengebiete verarbeitet werden. Willkommen sind Fragestellungen zu Klang- und Naturerfahrungen zwischen den Arten, zu Nachhaltigkeit und Geografie, sowie Arbeiten, die sich kritisch mit der Verortung des Menschen in der Natur auseinandersetzen. Wir interessieren uns für Vorhaben, die sich mit der Umgebung des Schwarzwaldes sowie seiner demographischen Entwicklung befassen und mit den Menschen vor Ort interagieren. Im Kern des VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMPS steht der Versuch und Anspruch, der Natur Subjektivität zuzuerkennen und sich mit ihr als biopolitischem Akteur auseinanderzusetzen.
Entscheidend für uns sind die konzeptuelle Darstellung des eingereichten Projektes, seine Umsetzbarkeit und ein ebenso präziser wie kreativer Bezug zum Projektrahmen.
Die zwei Residenzen umfassen den mietfreien Aufenthalt im KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST (zu Verfügung steht ein großzügiger Wohn- und Atelierraum mit Küche und Bad, der gemeinsam genutzt wird und ein privates Zimmer), ein Stipendium in Höhe von 1000 €/ Monat, die Erstattung der Materialkosten bis max. 500 €, die Erstattung der Fahrt-/ Reisekosten bis max. 250 € (national)/700€ (international) sowie kostenfreie Kost und Logis während des VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMPS.

PRODUCTION-GRANT for ARTISTS

The KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST will award two project-based, two to three months artist residencies for research and artistic production. The residencies will take place after individual arrangements between 1 February to 4 May 2024. The results of the residencies will be presented to the public at the annual VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP on 4 and 5 May 2024.
The VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP is a locally and independently organised event linked to a global network of different actors. Its aim is to artistically explore and communicate the behaviour and habitat of our feathered friends. The original inspiration for the BIRD SOUNDCAMP came from the environmentalist and broadcaster Chris Baines and his International Dawn Chorus Day, which was launched in the 1980s. On each first Sunday morning in May, various temporary sound camps around the world join together to create a global bird sound symphony. Through the cooperation of all sound camps, a 24-hour livestream of continuous morning chirping is created, in which the VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP in the Black Forest also participates. A worldwide phenomenon is thus made tangible along the sunrise: the morning song of the birds. In 2024, this will be May 5.
In addition to the 24-hour bird concert produced collectively by the sound camps, the VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP in the Black Forest will also feature a cross-media festival programme on site. This includes workshops, lectures, installations, performances, etc. - many of which are interactive and designed for participation.
The two residencies are intended to enable artists to develop a project- and theme-related work and to present it within the framework of the VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP. The artists will be supported in the production process by the GLOBAL FOREST team. In principle, all artistic media that can be realised within the framework of the festival are welcome. In terms of content, the focus should be on (im)mediate encounters with nature – especially with the world of birds. Socio-political issues can also be dealt with. We welcome investigations on the perception of sound and nature between species, on sustainability and geography, as well as works that critically examine the placement of humans in nature. We are interested in projects that deal with the environment of the Black Forest as well as its demographic development and interact with the local people. At the core of the VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMPS lies the attempt and claim to concede subjectivity to nature and to engage with it as a biopolitical protagonist.
The decisive factors for the evaluation of the open call are the conceptual presentation of the submitted project, its feasibility and an equally precise and creative reference to the project framework.
The two residencies include a rent-free stay at the KUNSTVEREIN GLOBAL FOREST (comprising a spacious living and studio space with kitchen and bathroom, which is shared, and a private room), a stipend of 1000 €/month, reimbursement of material costs up to a maximum of 500 €, reimbursement of travel costs up to a maximum of 250 € (national)/700€ (international), and free board and lodging during the VOGELKLANG-SOUNDCAMP.
