Yann Leguay ist Residenzkünstler im Rahmen des Mechanical Forests Projektes. Beim Open Studio stellt er seine aktuelle künstlerische Arbeit vor, die er in diesem Kontext entwickelt. Das Open Studio gibt Einblick in seine laufenden Untersuchungen und Arbeitsprozesse. Ergänzend zeigt er eine Live-Performance.

Performance: „7 Haikus for a Turntable“

„Wenn ich eine Schallplatte höre, frage ich mich, ob es wirklich der Plattenspieler ist, der die Platte um ihre Achse dreht, oder ob sich letztlich nicht vielmehr die gesamte Erde darunter bewegt.“

Zwischen Installation und Soundperformance entfalten sich „7 Haikus for a Turntable“ in sieben Akten – ein situatives, ephemeres Experiment an der Grenze zum Absurden rund um die Schallplatte. Dabei kreisen grundlegende Fragen um unsere Wahrnehmung von Klang, Objekt und Universum.

Yann Leguay ist ein in Brüssel lebender Künstler, der sich zwischen Konzeptkunst und Musik bewegt. In seiner Arbeit beschäftigt er sich mit der Archäologie medialer Technologien und entwickelt experimentelle, oft performative Ansätze im Umgang mit Klang. Dabei nutzt er ungewöhnliche Klangquellen und technische Objekte – von modifizierten Plattenspielern bis hin zu Alltagsmaschinen – um die Grenzen von Musik, Wahrnehmung und Medien zu hinterfragen. Seine Arbeiten wurden international in Ausstellungen, Konzerten und Festivals präsentiert.

Die Residenz von Yann Leguay findet im Rahmen des Projekts „Mechanical Forests“ statt, einer Kooperation der Donaueschinger Musiktage mit dem Festival Musica und dem Kunstverein Global Forest, gefördert durch Interreg.

Within the framework of his residency in the Mechanical Forests project, Yann Leguay presents his current artistic work developed in this context. The Open Studio offers insights into his ongoing research and working processes. In addition, he will present a live performance.

Performance: “7 Haikus for a Turntable”

“When listening to a record, I wonder if it is really the turntable that spins the record on its axis, or if, ultimately, it is the entire Earth rotating beneath it.”

Between an installation and a sound performance, 7 Haikus for a Turntable unfolds in seven acts — a situational and ephemeral experiment at the edge of the absurd, revolving around the vinyl record. It raises fundamental questions about our perception of sound, objects, and the universe.

Yann Leguay is a Brussels-based artist working at the intersection of conceptual art and music. His practice focuses on the archaeology of media technologies and develops experimental, often performative approaches to sound. He uses unconventional sound sources and technical objects — from modified turntables to everyday machinery — to question the boundaries of music, perception, and media. His work has been presented internationally in exhibitions, concerts, and festivals.

Yann Leguay’s residency is part of the „Mechanical Forests“ project, a collaboration between the Donaueschinger Musiktage together with Festival Musica and the Kunstverein Global Forest, funded by Interreg.
